Replicant - please...
I am in a quandary. I am lost. I am bereft.
It's a month since Battlestar Galactica finished and I still have no replacement programme. I don't even have Doctor Who to fall back on.
Of course there is Lost and Heroes and I do genuinely adore both of those shows (and during some of season 3 of BSG they were both *gasp* superior) but they don't have the same pull. Maybe it's because they are both earthbound? Maybe I need a spaceship to truly fall in love with a programme. (This thought has only just entered my head as I am typing this - OMG I'm even more of a geek then I realised - MEDIC!!)
I digress.
There has been time over the last few weeks for me to catch up with shows that fell under my radar, I quite like Sanctuary and finally I got to see the end of the Stargate Ori storyline. I've even caught myself watching reruns of ST:Enterprise and thinking that it's better than I remember.
I have also viewed The Day The Earth Stood Still and X-Files I Want To Believe, both of which were not as bad as I thought they were going to be.
I was quite happy, until the realisation that I was accepting sub-par Sci-fi because:
Stargate lost its way somewhere in season 6 or 7;
Enterprise had an excellent premise; no transporters, force fields et al; which meant the writers had to, shock, horror, WRITE their way out of a problem, but the programme was crippled by a plethora of dull as ditchwater episodes and;
X-Files lost it somewhere towards the end of season 7 - around the time what seemed to be the eighth lot of aliens turned up.
Fearing for my sanity and craving good Sci-fi, I had a Firefly day. This included introducing my friend Hannah to the 'verse. I'm sure you won't be surprised that she loved it and to be honest, I had forgotten just HOW good Firefly was - that perfect blend of humour and darkness pushes it beyond 99% of other shows.
Which leads me to a horrific thought; have we had the best? Or, is there a show in development hell right now that's going to blow my socks off? Is there a new 'verse out there? Are there any stories left to tell? What will the next big thing be?
On which note, I've seen the trailer for Stargate Universe and must say, interesting. We've all heard the rumour it's going to be in the BSG vein and god I hope so.
I need something to fill the space - everyone is hearing me scream.
This week Lolly has mainly been going through every emotion possible because of Trek XI... and this blog was brought to you by UNKLE's War Stories.
