PULP - coming to a comic convention near you
Hello again Syfy-ers! Long time no see, you look well, have you had a hair cut, etc.
Why thank you, I... heyyy! Stop buttering me up, Tyler.
Ugh, fine! Ok, first off, I'm so sorry for going AWOL since my coverage of Comic Con last summer and a massive thanks and cake (not a lie) to everyone who got in touch saying how much they enjoyed that last batch of bloggy goodness. Those of you who follow me on Twitter will already know some of the reasons why I've not had the chance to write much recently, and for those who don't... let's just say that these past twelve months have been a wee bit crazy! Good crazy, like a sweet old grandparent who bakes you cookies and keeps calling you Gerald, but crazy nonetheless.
Enough with the sob story. Dish the goss!
If you insist! Ok, I've been cast in a movie called ‘PULP’ that I think you lot will dig BIG time - we're talking hard hats and major tunnelling equipment kind of digging here. Lucky old me, eh? Well yes, but also lucky old YOU because you could be in it too! More on that later.

You see, the bods here at Syfy.co.uk think this film sounds like just your cup of tea too. Unfortunately most production companies like to keep their movies top secret until they're released, so blogging from set is not so much frowned upon as downright scowled at, kicked, thrown in a sack and chucked into a canal. However, in this case I've managed to twist the ‘PULP’ team’s collective arms and convince them to let me write about the production and put the resulting bloggage up here on Syfy for all you fine chaps and chapesses to read. Sooo... I'll be sneaking about on set to bring you exclusive behind the scenes news, interviews and photos AS the movie's being made.
Exclusive, eh? I like that word. What's this picturemajig about, then?
This particular moving picture’s a comedy, exploring the weird and wonderful goings-on at comic book conventions with a distinctly British sense of humour that's rarely been shown in films. I hardly ever laugh out loud when reading scripts (I'm a wry smile kinda girl, perhaps a slight chuckle at a push), but this one had me giggling like a sugar-addled toddler in a ballpit. The production peeps have summarised the plot far better than I ever could so... here be the official blurb:
Infinite Finity. Thunder Racers. Milieu Man. Rat Warriors. Junk Comics’s library of titles has been referred to as the ‘worst material printed since Mein Kampf’.
Tony Leary, the nice-guy owner of Junk Comics, is gearing up for one last roll of the dice. His new superhero title, The Sodomizer, launches at the British International Comic Show, and nothing will stop Tony from making it a success. Nothing except a gang of Geordie criminals who are using another comic company to launder their dirty money. Tony is drafted by the police to identify the culprits and bring them to justice.
Aided by his trusty geek sidekicks, Rick and Keith, Tony must defy the odds if he is to become a real life hero.
Whistle whetted? Good, because I'm not allowed to tell you anything more about the plot right now. Or about the other actors in it. I can say that Tony’s comic isn’t as rude as it sounds, and I can probably tell you a teeny bit about the character I’ll be playing, so long as I'm cryptic. She's called Ashley and she’s... well, a little strange and very... uhh... affectionate towards poor Tony! I'll be playing opposite an extremely ‘nice’ star of British comedy that you'll DEFINITELY recognise. Oh, and one of my scenes involves wearing a roman slavegirl outfit.
I DEMAND TO BE IN THIS MOVIE!
Well you're in luck! The first two days of the shoot will take place at this weekend's British International Comics Show in Birmingham, and as well as filming some scripted scenes for the movie (which YOU could be an extra in!) we'll also be interviewing real-life comic book fans (that's YOU again). The best interviews will then be included in the movie - think of it like 'When Harry Met Sally'-style intercutting, but way, way geekier.
So, come along and join us this weekend and you might get to see yourself on the big screen one day soon! In fairness, you should probably be at the convention anyway - it'll be many flavours of awesome.
Head to the BICS 2010 at Thinktank, Birmingham on the 16th or 17th of October and find ‘PULP’ at Booth 14 in Hall 2. I'll be there, so come over and say hi and I’ll include you in my bloggings.
See you there!
Milly x
