Top 5 Slays from Buffy Season Four
Buffy kicks some serious butt in the fourth season, but which were the best slays? Having followed the Scooby Gang around Sunnydale, SyFy took some notes (it’s amazing that Buffy didn’t see us lurking outside The Magic Box) and compiled a list of most impressive slays.
5. Living Conditions
Most of us have lived with someone who makes us wish we’d fallen into the Hellmouth so we didn’t have to deal with their, let’s say, loud flossing. When Buffy has a problem with her Cher-loving roommate, the gang supposes she has gone insane as opposed to Kathy Newman being a 3000 year old demon. Buffy thinks that Kathy is “the Titanic”, a “crawling black cancer” or “other really bad things”, but it’s her growing toenail clippings that make Buffy realise that Kathy’s a demon. Kathy wasn’t slayed, exactly, but there’s some pretty intense bitch fighting and plenty of catty words exchanged.
4. Pangs
It’s the one when the gang are being attacked by vengeful spirits at Giles’ place. While the group doesn’t seem to be able to prevent them with punches (and Willow tries to stop a spirit with a shovel), Buffy soon figures out that it’s the spirits’ own weapons that can kill them. What makes this slay particularly impressive is that Buffy manages to take on the stress of making a Thanksgiving dinner as well as save the day. In Buffy’s own words: “It is a sham. But it's a sham with yams. It's a yam sham.”
3. Hush
Everyone in Sunnydale loses their voice, but the Scooby Gang still works together to stop The Gentlemen cutting out the hearts of Sunnydale citizens. With her quips and puns, Buffy tries to talk many monsters to death, but in “Hush” when she gets her voice back she essentially does – she kills them with her scream. It also makes the slay list because the Gentlemen’s heads explode.
2. Superstar
In a world where Jonathan is sexy, starred in The Matrix, invented the internet and is, perhaps most shockingly, part of the Scooby Gang, there must be some serious evil goings on. Indeed, the world is this way as Jonathan performed an augmentation spell, but he didn’t know about the demon he’d also be conjuring up in the process. Buffy receives top marks for fighting the monster, which would be everyone's worst nightmare, and after she has had her workout Jonathan helps by pushing it into a pit.
1. Primeval
Adam is the brainchild of Professor Walsh, who inevitably turned evil and killed his own mother. Using magic, Giles, Willow and Xander merge their psyches in Buffy's body – making Buffy able to contend with the part human, part demon, and part robot that is Adam. “You can never hope to grasp the source of our power. But yours is right here,” Buffy says as she pulls out Adam’s uranium-powered "heart". It’s a dramatic last slay of the season. With comic Buffy battle one-liners intact.
Buffy season 4 continues every weeknight at7pm on Syfy.
