Either Stingray or Captain Scarlett would have to be my favourite Gerry Anderson show. They were that bit edgier than Thunderbirds (especially Scarlett).

I always loved the intro to Stingray. The theme tune was great. For some reason I used to be transfixed when the Marina music started up ("Marina... under the sea" or something like that).

Quote:
Marina, Aqua Marina,
What are these strange enchantments that start
whenever you’re near?
Marina, Aqua Marina,
Why can’t you whisper the words that my heart
is longing to hear?

You're magic to me,
A beautiful mystery.
I’m certain to fall I know,
Because you enthral me so.

Marina, Aqua Marina,
Why don’t you say,
That you’ll always stay,
Close to my heart.

So my "under the sea" misquote was way off the mark.

As much as I liked Marina there was always something odd, and rather sad, about her expressionless face.

She scared the living daylights out of me. Her beautific face bereft of emotion, mute and of some non-human aquatic species. Terrifying.

As far as themes go, I was always partial to a bit of Fireball XL5.

I remember having a bit of a crush on Marina when I was a young 'un. Mind you, this talk of aquatic women reminds me of Fredric Brown's "Fish Story" (I couldn't find a legitimate online link, though his famous "The Answer" can be found online) which deals with what would happen if you were to fall in love with a mermaid ("Futurama" covered the same problem many years later).

"Fireball"... I used to have both that and "Aquamarina" on one of my car CDs - I must get around to adding them to my phone.

Stingray was the best Anderson series for me. I always preferred it to Thunderbirds. I used to have a model stingray, bought from my local post office, when I was a nipper. I tjhink I have a annual somewhere too. I always liked the Peter Lorre secret agent character.

I'm going to disagree - it was Captain Scarlet that was the best for me plus, (and I realise that this might get me lynched), I found the "New" (CGI) series was actually pretty good. But, like you, that Peter Lorre style agent in Stingray always made me smile - at one point I could do a passable imitation... (sad I know).

One thing I wondered about was why they (someone) never bothered to remake Stingray - to be honest I would have thought that this was more amenable to a CGI remake - or even a live action one - than either Captain Scarlet or Thunderbirds (and the less said about that live-action T'birds remake the better).
