Day it comes back on it is announced that there will be no more after season 5.

Hi Guys,
There are 6 episodes scheduled for season 6. Don't know why someone has reported the end of the series.
In case you either don't know or have forgotten, I live in the States and am an avid fan of SYFY US and UK. I've NOT seen anything in the US site about Eureka being canceled after season 5. They said that 6 episodes were ordered for season 6 but that at this point they weren't sure that there would be more than that.
I'll keep watching for more info here. Will let you know what I find. It's possible that someone misinterperted the post about season 6.

Well, just got out of SYFY US and you're right. They've canceled the 6 episodes ordered for season 6. At least there were be a season 5, Should let them tie up the loose ends. I love the show, Jack Carter ROCKS, but how many times can he save Eureka and the world from GD?
CATE
Ah NO!
What is Syfy doing????
A lot of the other channels are now showing syfy shows. (some of them really good) Should THE syfy channel not be going above and beyond the others. Where did Legend of the Seeker go? Where did the DollHouse go? And why is Sanctury on another channel. And SGU??? Non of it makes any sense!
Eureka is one of the best shows ever (especially this time travelling twist) - how can they possibly think it a good idea to end it.
My day has been ruined!
Where did Legend of the Seeker go? Where did the DollHouse go?
Cancelled by the people who made them due to production costs/poor ratings, not SyFy (who were only the UK broadcaster).
And why is Sanctury on another channel. And SGU?
Because they had more money and paid more for them.

It's my understanding that at the end of 5 years, contracts expire and people want more money. The people holding the purse strings need to weigh up whether this is going to be worth paying for, or not.
As I said above, I'd rather see a show end on a high than be dragged on past its sell-by date (Stargate).
Everyone is entitled to an opinion - and I for one will miss the show, as I do the others.
I understand the politics. I may even agree that there are shows which should end on a high. (Eureka is not one of them).
My comments may (no may about it) have been all over the place.
I seem to be going from channel to channel for syfy shows - and less and less to the actual named syfy channel - which seems to have a nack for starting really good shows, then dropping them or letting them go to another channel. (I know finances, ratings, contracts etc, etc)
Its just an opinion (lament) no harm intended and no action sought (although I really would like to see the show continue) - I still have the end of the current series to look forward to, and I'm enjoying W/house 13. And I have every faith, that in the future syfy will introduce more really good series, which I will enjoy. Its just a shame (for what ever reason) if they don't keep them.
- I really enjoyed ALL of stargate (more than once) - from the movie right through to the current spin off.
Another one bites the dust. Have to agree with some of the comments on site about replacing actual programmes with "reality" TV. Thankfully my reality isn't about chasing ghosts, Bamma, WWF or other such items, it's about having the choice of not watching crap I am not interested in. Vote with your remote, switch off the crap and with a bit of luck ratings (and revenue) will drop thus forcing schedulers to get the idea that we are not all content to watch paint dry!! Of course it could also be that the cast are moving on to other projects, if so good luck to 'em, they have given me hours of entertainment, and will continue to do so via DVD.

That's pretty much my opinion too - the fighting stuff really hacks me off - aren't there enough dedicated sports channels for that kind of stuff without it slopping into the others? It really stinks to me of desperate "heck, we've got a space in our schedule, quick - find some rubbish to drop in there!". I'd rather they ran repeats of Star Trek or B5... (Or, and this is just a thought, how about Big Bang Theory?)
Back to the sainted TCE - I'm really hoping that "they" (the folks in the US) manage to get a chance to tie up the lose ends in the final episode - if they do the usual and just leave it hanging, then that would be a colossal dis-service against what has been a good series - I'll certainly be completing my box set collection.
By the way, if SyFy UK want to run another BestOf/ViewersChoice selection of TCE, then I'll happily nominate the "Up In The Air" episode - got to be Colin Ferguson at his best! :D
I certainly hope they do tie up all the loose ends, unless of course the producers are keeping in mind the popularity of the show and will maybe one day resurrect it.
If Syfy are thinking of doing BestOf/ViewersChoice selection, good - I can sit and watch 'em all again on dvd to select my favourite!!
I'm on twitter and i follow some of the cast members and it is indeed the end of eureka after season 5 although they say we may only be getting 19 episodes or 13 i'm not sure so don't hold me to that.
but i've been thinking if they can't afford another series and they haven't tied up the loose ends what about a film? They did it with stargate and firefly why not eureka.
I think it would have been great if they did a total crossover episode with warehouse 13 where all the cast met seeing as saul rubinek was in season 1 of eureka as a different character and erica cerra and niall matter were in warehouse 13 as different characters it would be hilarious.
what does everyone think about the points i've made.
Best Show on tv, cant belive they are going to axe it, there are other shows that could go ???
Having read comments on several different tv related forums, including CityTV in Canada about the cancellation of Murdoch Mysteries, it seems that the the current trend is to stop producing drama/sci fi or proper programmes as I tend to think of them, and to concentrate on reality shows such as "counry of your choice's next top model", "come and criticise my cooking", "I'm to lazy to clean/decorate my house, bring a camera crew and help me", "I'm fantasising about moving house, even though I can't possibly afford it, let's get a presenter to go look for my ideal fantasy homes and take me round a few" "I want to raise a bit of extra cash, send an antiques expert found to help me do a car boot sale" "I'm useless at DIY, to mean to pay a tradesman and to thick to read a book on the subject, bring me some experts and get it done for me". etc. etc. Back in the mists of time, a TV critic laid out the future of television in the UK. He said it will all be cheap to make, disposable, mind numbing pap. the guy had obviously found Doctor Grant's bridging device and gone forward to 2007 as opposed to back to 1947!! I'm glad i took notice of this warning and stored up some quality drama programmes on video/dvd. And I am mightily glad that my tv has an OFF switch!!
I thought that "The Murdoch Mysteries" was renewed for another year?
Anyway, I totally agree that there are far too many reality/talent shows clogging the airwaves, but it's disingenuous to claim that proper drama is dying. Take a look at my "new season roundup" ( http://www.syfy.co.uk/forums/new-season-roundup ) - and this is only the shows I think are of interest to people here; it doesn't include most crime or costume dramas.
As for quality, I've not watched "Murdoch" but to a non-viewer it sounds like yet another "procedural with a twist" (admittedly the period trappings must mean it's not cheap!). That's not to say it's no good - it sounds interesting, and may well be top notch - but just pointing out a reason why it isn't "water cooler" TV.
Dragging the topic back to "Eureka": I like the show, but surely it's the very definition of "disposable"? It's fluff that you can watch with your brain disengaged knowing full well that everything will work out fine in the end. To me, it's ending (and don't forget they know it's coming and so have a chance to give it a "proper" end - if they choose to) is sad only for it's fans. I don't think it's a huge loss to quality TV drama.
Hi Guys,
Eureka is going out with a final episode that from the sounds of things is going to be movie length.
I wish that all of our favorite shows could last as long as Coronation Street or Emmerdale, LeM don't groan at this part, but it's better that they go out on top rather than sticking around until everyone is sick and tired of them. A five year run is longer than most US TV programs get, so enoy it while you can, I know I will.
LeM, If you get a break in your TV watching schedule, give the Murcdoch Mysteries a try. It's a little, police procedural, ala 1890"s with a bit of a SFI-FI twist add a large dollop of comedy and you have a very nice mix. Start with series 1, instead of th4e Murdoch Mystery Movies, that's when the fun starts. The movies are good but the comedy and sfi-fi start in series one.
Enjoy life, love to the fullest, make every day count, because only the Immortals have forever!

? I'd rather things went out before they passed their sell-by date *cough*Stargate*cough*; I think I've already said that Eureka has had a good run.
As for "Murdoch", alas I've got stuff stacking up on the DVR AND the hard drive + a stack of preview discs so it's unlikely I'll get time. I take it that the Peter Outenbridge "season"/films are a completely separate incarnation?
well it is syfy loss more people turning off or not turning on the station
they will cancel themselfs into bankrupcy
no way its such a good show funny yet intesting been watching since started how come every thing good on syfy is being scrapped
LeMarchand is correct, there are some decent new shows coming to SYFY. But as Cate has pointed out above, a five year run is rare for a series now. I suppose the teriffic Haven will end soon too. I Don't personnally watch Eastenders/Emmerdale/Hollyoakes/Neighbours, and tghe myriad of reality shows etc, and haven't seen Coronation Street for 30 odd years, but another example of overkill was Last of The Summer Wine - a wonderful series but worked to death. Now the winter season is upon us i supect the programming will be a little more interesting.
like you i don't watch soaps but there are show that have run for years and could run for many more yet they were killed. Stargate sg1 being one! SGu just as it stared to show some pontenial. like wise atlantis and to many more to mention killed off, but it has also killed much more
1. five years ago i would watch syfy for about three hours a DAY, this WEEK! I will watch heaven one hour.
2. i did'nt bother with the prisoner. Just last night I cancelled the reminder for person unknown
3. i wont be marking new programmes as i won't see most of the adds to catch my interest i need to be watch! and that is becoming rare
Yes, of course I am gutted that "Eureka" is being cancelled. Not surprised in the least though. A show with humour, intelligence, diversity and a terrific cast is just ASKING to be axed. What our Morlok brethren out there want is "reality" (yeah, right!) shows featuring big-busted stupidly RICH women screaming at one another in estuarine accents and SOAPS where everyone is permanently miserable and, if at all possible, killing each other in a variety of "amusing" ways. The executives are cancelling the shows not because the ratings are ACTUALLY poor, but because they DON'T HAVE FAITH in the shows and shove them into timeslots where they will inevitably get poor ratings. The curse of Star Trek TOS. Also, the execs cut the budgets for the show series on series, and then complain that the quality of the show is not as good. Well, duhhhhhhh!! You want to know what keeps "Big Bang Theory" going? It's 30 minutes long, has no FX, about five cheap sets and pays rubbish money (ask the cast...)
It is a shame that we are now bombarded with what Mr Luckham-Bulmer calls "reality" (yeah right) shows. If there is s group of folks stranded in the jungle, who is doing the filming and the sound recording and all the make up/wardrobe? I saw a trailer for something the other night with a loud "bleeep" obviousoly covering a profanity, that was only the trailer. Reality tv is rarely that. At least the producers should be honest and put it in the small print at the bottom of the screen (this shownhas been edited post production to make it appear real) I'm just waiting for the ultimate crossover - the only way is essex/BAMMA/eastenders/coronation streeet/emmerdale/big brother ballroom dancing in the jungle. Failing that, how about some sci-fi programmes? Perhaps something for everyone, fantasy with some dragons and wizards, space, weird happenings in little towns? Something that is for those of us who have a few brain cells active and like a story, as opposed to a collection of loud bangs held together with car chases and potty mouth language?
I think this is another big mistake by SyFy. Too much wrestling and ghost stories on the channel now, because these are sci fi. SyFy will be like MTV. Eureka is an amzing programme, and I thought it was still a high rated programme. I think when they changed to name to SyFy it was meant to mean Sod you F**k you.
Oh Darrylc, you have made me laugh with what SyFy stands for! There are a few fantasy and disaster films (meteors, huge plants, volcano's, dionsaur sharks etc) on some of the movie channels on Virgin Media at the moment that can be a salve to the brain after a long day at work, but for general programming I know what you mean. I'm liking the Almighty Johnsons which I find very entertaining. I think the problem is with sci fi although it has a large following worldwide, it's expensive to produce, and production companies are having to kow tow to the big corporations who distribute programming to the TV companies. If the current trend is for endless programmes about doing up a house in an hour or buying property for profit/overseas holiday homes etc, then that is what the corporations want produced. It's cheap to make, no actors to pay, a few tins of paint/sheets of plasterboard and away we go. Same with cookery programmes, things lime come dine with me etc. As with the media in the UK at the moment, governments and powers that be are just waking up to the fact that allowing one or two huge corporations to monopolise the media is leading to massive problems (News of the World phone hacking scandal) As we all know, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Hang in there, watch the bits you like and use the off switch for the rest. I'm patiently waiting for the release of Eureka season 4.5 on DVD and series 5 to appear on SyFy.
Loner,
I agree with you. WAY!!! to much crap programming on both sides of the POND, but help is near.
Eureka season 5 is due to start here on April 16th. If it goes true to form, you should have it about 3-4 weeks later. I too and waiting for Season 4.5 to come out on DVD. I'm thinking it should come out just about the same time that Season 5 starts.
Live Long and Love Longer.

i cant believe this the best series i have seen for a long time and now they or going to cancel it.

It sounds like they've had plenty of notice to wrap it up, at least.
