Legend of the Seeker is a New Zealand produced television show based on the Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind. Richard Cypher

Richard Cypher has a date with destiny, but he certainly doesn't have one with the beautiful woman he just met named Kahlan. She catches his eye whilst running through the forests of Hartland, complete with four soldiers hot on her heels. Suspecting danger, Richard does the honourable thing and protects Kahlan, or at least tries to. An unexpected blow from one of the soldiers leaves him knocked out on the ground with little chance of helping her. But already the prophecy has begun, and Richard and Kahlan's chance encounter will lead them to meet each other once again, entwining their destinies in a fight for freedom, truth and love.

Richard may only start out a woodsman, but he leaves Hartland as the Seeker; a person destined to wield the Sword of Truth and with it, fight evil. Together with a wizard named Zedd and a mysterious woman named Kahlan, Richard will journey through Midlands in the search of one man: Darken Rahl; an evil Lord set on enslaving the world, and only one person stands in his way of complete tyranny - Richard.

Kahlan Amnell

Kahlan Amnell's first foray into Hartland doesn't go without risk; after losing her sister to bloodthirsty soldiers and almost being killed herself, she manages to cross the magical boundary that separates her world from Richard's. Once on the other side, she continues to be hunted and ends up crossing paths with Richard, who mistakes her for a helpless woman. With no weapons in sight, Kahlan calmly takes hold of the soldier who was about to run her through with his sword, and with a single touch, magically commands him to fight for her.

Kahlan is a Confessor; she was born with the ability to find the truth and by merely touching a person, she can command them to tell her just that. Her own destiny brings her to Hartland in search of a great and powerful wizard named Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander, whose task it is to name the Seeker. Somewhat reluctantly, the wizard names the Seeker as none other than Richard Cypher. Kahlan swears her life to Richard, to his cause, and promises to help him fulfill his destiny as told in the prophecy.

Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander

Or Zedd for short. He can often be found talking to his chickens or standing atop a rock, naked, gazing at the clouds. Kahlan happens to find Zedd at one such moment and proclaims him to be the very wizard she was looking for. Feigning ignorance, Zedd refutes such claims until she brings out Shar, a magical creature of light who confirms his identity. Kahlan needs the First Wizard to name the Seeker, a person who arises in times of great need, to fight evil and to bring peace to the land.

To Kahlan's surprise, and also Richard's, Zedd pronounces him as the Seeker. He had been watching Richard grow up, but had stayed at a safe enough distance as not to be directly involved in his life. Zedd promises to aid the Seeker as a wizard and as a friend; he becomes the last link to Richard's past but plays an even more important role in his future. Zedd is a man with many secrets, but with Richard as the Seeker of Truth, how long will Zedd be able to keep them hidden?

Darken Rahl

Not content with taking over the Midlands, Darken Rahl has his sights set on bigger things, like the entire world. To accomplish this, he needs the three boxes of Orden; once put together they give the person complete control over the world, over the people, over everything. With such power within his sights, Darken Rahl will stop at nothing to obtain what he desires. From using dark magic of the underworld, to experimenting with magical procedures on human slaves, there is nothing this man won't do.

For the past twenty-three years, he has been living without fear of threat from the Seeker - but that all changes the night Richard discovers his destiny. The prophecy states that the Seeker will defeat Darken Rahl. The future is yet to be played out, but one thing's for sure and that is Darken Rahl and Richard will meet, and when they do, it's going to change the course of the world forever.
