  2. Episode 2

    Metamorphosis

Clark discovers that a fellow high school student, Greg Arkin (CHAD E. DONELLA), has been attacked by Kryptonite-affected bugs. Greg has taken on the "eat, molt, mate, die" life cycle of an insect--with Lana as his prey. Clark must rush to save her without revealing his superpowers. Meanwhile, Lex possesses Lana's Kryptonite necklace and ponders what to do with the strange stone.

  3. Episode 3

    Hothead

Clark and Lex defy their respective fathers. Clark joins the football team, against Jonathan's wishes, ultimately discovering that the coach, Walt Arnold (DAN LAURIA), has been altered by Kryptonite and is using fire-starting abilities to hurt anyone who might prevent him from winning. Meanwhile, Lex battles his own father, Lionel Luthor (JOHN GLOVER), for control of LuthorCorp.

  4. Episode 4

    X-Ray

Clark reels from his first flashes of X-ray vision. His shock is compounded when he witnesses a bank robbery, apparently by his friend, Lex. Unsure of how to control this new power, Clark nonetheless puts it to use when a Smallville teen who has developed shape-shifting abilities threatens Lana.

  5. Episode 5

    Cool

Clark has a chance to share a night out on the town with Lana, thanks to Lex's matchmaking, but the evening is interrupted when Clark faces an icy enemy, Sean Kelvin (MICHAEL CORISTINE). Sean is an aggressive flirt who suffers from a Kryptonite-induced case of permanent hypothermia and has to feed off of others' body heat to survive--starting with Chloe.

  6. Episode 6

    Hourglass

Clark is wracked with haunting visions when he meets an old woman, Cassandra Carpenter (JACKIE BURROUGHS), who can see the future. Lex schemes to use Cassandra's gift to glimpse his own destiny and learn more about Clark's secret. Meanwhile, a bitter old man, Harry Bollston (GEORGE MURDOCK), discovers a "fountain of youth" and reverts to a teenager. He then seeks revenge on the descendants of jurors who put him in jail decades ago.

  7. Episode 7

    Craving

Clark must save Pete from being literally devoured by a female classmate, Jodi Melville (AMY ADAMS), whose diet of Kryptonite-affected vegetables causes her to shed weight faster than she can handle, forcing her to satisfy her ravenous hunger by gorging on any available food source. Meanwhile, Lex gets one step closer to the truth about Clark after funding a study on the green meteor fragments.

  8. Episode 8

    Jitters

Clark and Lex team up to rescue members of Clark's high school class after a janitor, Earl Jenkins (TONY TODD), takes them hostage in LuthorCorp's Smallville Fertilizer Plant No. 3. Jenkins claims his deadly "jitters" were caused by a mysterious contaminant, and he threatens to kill everyone unless he is shown a secret sublevel--which Lionel Luthor (recurring guest star JOHN GLOVER) denies ever existed.

  9. Episode 9

    Rogue

Clark's secret identity is jeopardized when a corrupt policeman, Sam Phelan (CAMERON DYE), witnesses Clark using his superhuman powers and coerces him into joining forces. However, when Clark double-crosses the cop, he is not prepared to deal with the consequences for him and his family. Meanwhile, Lex receives an intriguing proposal from his sexy British ex-girlfriend, Victoria Hardwick (recurring guest star KELLY BROOK - "The Big Breakfast").

  10. Episode 10

A teenage girl, Amy Palmer (AZURA SKYE - "28 Days," "Zoe"), lets her obsession with Lex become life threatening as attacks in the Luthor mansion pit Clark against an invisible enemy. Meanwhile, Clark is thrilled when Lana seeks his companionship after Whitney inexplicably rebuffs her.

  11. Episode 11

    Hug

Clark is amazed when a pesticide magnate, Bob Rickman (RICK PETERS), who has enhanced powers of persuasion due to the meteor fragments, somehow convinces Jonathan to sell the family farm to make way for a new plant. Clark teams with a local hermit, Kyle Tippet (GREGORY SPORLEDER), whose mysterious past holds the secret to saving the town.

  12. Episode 12

    Leech

When Clark rescues his classmate, Eric Summers (SHAWN ASHMORE), from harm during an electrical storm, they are both struck by lightning--resulting in all of Clark's superpowers being transferred to Eric. While Eric relishes his new life as "Superboy," he soon begins to abuse his new powers. Clark's happiness at finally being a "normal" teenager is tempered by his growing concern for the town's safety. Meanwhile, Lex confronts Clark, believing that he has undeniable proof of Clark's superpowers.

  13. Episode 13

    Kinetic

Clark and Lex are mystified when the Luthor mansion is robbed by burglars who seem to have the ability to walk through walls. 14. Episode 14

  16. Episode 16

    Stray

After Martha accidentally hits a young boy with her car, the Kents take him in until they can locate his parents. They are unaware that the boy can read minds and has discovered the hidden thoughts of Lex, Lana, Jonathan and Martha, putting Clark's secret in jeopardy. Meanwhile, Lex must decide if he wants to accept a job offer from his father, Lionel (recurring guest star JOHN GLOVER), which would entail moving back to Metropolis.

  17. Episode 17

    Reaper

Clark must stop a meteorite-infected man, Tyler Randall (REYNALDO ROSALES), who seeks to relieve the suffering of the sick and elderly with a deadly touch. Whitney's ailing father might be Tyler's next victim. Meanwhile, Lex becomes furious when his father sends someone to peruse LuthorCorp's financial records, and the investigator exposes Lex's secret investigation into Clark and his family.

  18. Episode 18

    Drone

Clark seeks election as class president, hoping for the opportunity to be a normal kid. However, when two of his opponents are attacked by a swarm of bees, Clark suspects that one of the other candidates is eliminating the competition--and Clark might be next on the list.

  19. Episode 19

    Crush

Clark confronts an unexpected foe when a talented art student, Justin Gaines (ADAM BRODY), returns to school after being hit by a car. The accident robbed Justin of the use of his hands--but it left him with the gift of telekinesis, and he uses the power for revenge against those he considers responsible for his condition. Meanwhile, after observing Clark with Chloe, Lana becomes jealous and begins to question her relationship with Whitney.

  20. Episode 20

    Obscura

After witnessing an explosion near some meteor fragments, Lana gains the ability to see through other people's eyes. Clark and Lana race to find Chloe after Lana "watches" Chloe being kidnapped and buried alive. Meanwhile, Lex discovers evidence that a spaceship landed in Smallville during the meteor shower.

  21. Episode 21

    Tempest

As a massive tornado approaches the unsuspecting Smallville, Clark finds a missing piece of the spaceship that carried him to Earth. The part activates the disabled craft, giving Clark the first clue as to where he came from. Meanwhile, Lex experiences two disturbing events: His father, Lionel (recurring guest star JOHN GLOVER), closes the plant and orders Lex to return to Metropolis, and the deceitful reporter Lex hired to spy on the Kents discovers Clark's superhuman abilities and the spaceship hidden in the storm cellar. Members of the rock band Remy Zero (themselves) perform their hit single "Save Me"--the "Smallville" theme song--at the Smallville High School formal dance.

Characters

  • Tom Welling, familiar to television audiences from a recurring role on "Judging Amy," makes his series-starring debut in "Smallville" as a teenage Clark Kent struggling to come to grips with his emerging superpowers.

Born and raised in New York, Welling is fairly new to the acting world. He performed in a few high school theatre productions before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a professional career.

His first big break was landing six episodes on "Judging Amy" last season, playing opposite Amy Brenneman in a romantic role that drew raves. He landed the role of Clark after the producers conducted a nationwide search.

When not working, Welling enjoys reading, playing basketball with friends and running.

  • A fresh face to American television viewers, Kristin Kreuk was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. She began acting in plays in high school but mostly focused on her schoolwork rather than the stage. Fate came calling at the beginning of her senior year, when a casting director looking for new talent for the television series "Edgemont" tapped Kreuk for a starring role. It was her first professional audition.

Since then, she has starred on the series for two seasons and has continued her role while filming "Smallville" in her hometown of Vancouver. She will also be seen this spring starring in the title role of the television movie "Snow White," opposite Miranda Richardson.

Kreuk currently lives with her family in Vancouver and, when not working, enjoys reading and spending time with friends.

  • Self-assured and possessed of a rapid-fire wit, Michael Rosenbaum shaved his thick hair for the role he seems born to play: a young Lex Luthor in "Smallville." Born in Oceanside, New York, and raised in Newburgh, Indiana, Rosenbaum excelled in high school drama classes. Once hooked, he took on lead roles in college stage productions such as "The Heidi Chronicles" while attending Western Kentucky University and performing in regional theatre during his summers.

Upon graduating with a degree in mass communications and theatre, he packed his bags and headed for New York to pursue acting. He quickly landed roles in off-Broadway productions and small independent films, and he soon segued into regular appearances on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" in a sketch called "The Amsterdam Kids."

His first real break came when he got a regular role on The WB's comedy series "The Tom Show," with Tom Arnold. The relationship with the network continued as he was cast as Jack in the New York comedy "Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane."

Most recently, Rosenbaum appeared on the big screen in "Sweet November," which starred Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron. Rosenbaum can be seen starring in the college comedy "Sorority Boys," opposite Harland Williams and Barry Watson (The WB's "7th Heaven"), and he plays the lead role in the independent drama "Poolhall Junkies," with Christopher Walken, Rick Schroder and Chazz Palminteri. Rosenbaum also starred in the hit thriller "Urban Legend" and appeared in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack.

Rosenbaum currently resides in Los Angeles. When not working, he belongs to an ice hockey league. He has played the sport since childhood and is a dedicated New York Rangers fan.

  • Having been in Hollywood only two years, Sam Jones III is already making quite a name for himself. He recently completed leading roles in two feature films, "Zigzag" and "Snipes," as well as guest starring in several television series. His role as Pete marks his series-starring debut.

Growing up in Boston, Massachusetts, Jones acted in local commercials. After spending a summer vacation with a friend living in Los Angeles, he caught the showbiz bug and decided to pursue a career in acting. Soon after he graduated from high school, Jones moved to Hollywood to follow his dream.

His first job was a memorable guest-starring role on "NYPD Blue," in which he portrayed a troubled teen who stole a gun and hid it in his daughter's crib. From there, Jones' career began to grow. His credits include an emotionally charged recurring role on "C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation," in which he played a teen who accidentally kills a girl and then watches as his grandfather attempts to take the blame. He also guest starred on "Judging Amy," as a sexually abused teen who gets mixed up in a drive-by shooting. Jones appears in two episodes of the R.L. Stine series "The Nightmare Room," on Kids' WB!

On the big screen, Jones is poised to make an auspicious debut. In the gritty independent drama "Zigzag," he plays the autistic 15-year-old title character, opposite Wesley Snipes as his crack-addicted father. The film also stars Oliver Platt, Natasha Lyonne and John Leguizamo as his terminally ill mentor. Jones also stars in the upcoming independent crime drama "Snipes," playing opposite rapper Nelly and Dean Winters ("Oz").

When he is not working, Jones spends his time on the basketball court. He relocated from Los Angeles to Vancouver for the filming of "Smallville."

  • Allison Mack has already amassed numerous credits, spanning lighthearted comedies to serious dramatic roles. She was born in Germany but moved with her family to Southern California at the age of 2, beginning her acting career at age 4 with print work and commercials. At 7, she began studying at The Young Actors Space in Los Angeles, where she currently attends classes in improvisation and scene study.

Mack got the chance to display her comedic flair as a series regular on "Hiller and Diller," working alongside comedy greats Richard Lewis, Kevin Nealon and Eugene Levy, and she also starred in the comedy "Opposite Sex." Previously, Mack guest starred in a highly rated and critically praised episode of The WB's family drama "7th Heaven," portraying a teen caught up in the devastating trend of "cutting" (self-mutilation). She can also be seen on Kids' WB! in two episodes of the R.L. Stine series "The Nightmare Room."

Additionally, Mack has starred in many prestigious movies for television, including the recent cable film "My Horrible Year," directed by Eric Stoltz and starring Karen Allen, Mimi Rogers and Stoltz. She appeared in "A Private Matter," with Sissy Spacek and Aidan Quinn; "Living a Lie," with Peter Coyote and Jill Eichenberry; "Unlikely Angel," with Dolly Parton and Roddy McDowall; "Stolen Memories: Secrets from the Rose Garden," starring Mary Tyler Moore and Linda Lavin; and "A Mother's Revenge."

On the big screen, Mack appeared in "Camp Nowhere" and starred in the video release "Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves."

An accomplished dancer and singer, Mack enjoys reading, going to movies and plays and spending time with her friends and family.

  • Annette O'Toole played Lana Lang, the girl Clark Kent left behind in his youth, in the big-screen feature "Superman III." Now, she takes her new place in the Superman saga playing Clark Kent's mother, Martha, in the new action-adventure series "Smallville."

Born in Houston, Texas, O'Toole started dancing at the early age of 3. At 13, she moved with her family to Los Angeles, and she began taking acting lessons. Her first big break came when she starred in the 1975 feature film "Smile," as a conniving beauty pageant contestant. Since then, O'Toole has appeared on the big screen in "48 Hrs.," playing the girlfriend of Nick Nolte's character; the 1982 remake of "Cat People," directed by Paul Schrader; "Here on Earth," with Chris Klein and Leelee Sobieski; "One on One"; "King of the Gypsies"; "Cross My Heart"; and "Love at Large."

Most recently, O'Toole starred on the cable television series "The Huntress," and she has also been a series regular on "Nash Bridges." She has guest starred on many series, including "Law & Order," "Boy Meets World" and "Frasier."

O'Toole was nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for her portrayal of Rose Kennedy in the television miniseries "The Kennedys of Massachusetts." Her numerous television movie credits include "The War Between the Tates," as a student involved with her professor; "Stand By Your Man," in which she showcased her singing voice playing country music legend Tammy Wynette; "Love for Rent"; "A Girl of the Limberlost"; "The Entertainer"; Stephen King's "It"; and Danielle Steel's "Jewels."

Dividing her time between stage and screen, O'Toole has performed in theatre productions around the country, including a run in Los Angeles in "Vanities" and performances of "Yankee Wives" and "Sun Bearing Down" at The Globe Theater.

Currently living in Los Angeles, O'Toole is married to actor Michael McKean ("Best in Show").

  • John Schneider is a multitalented performer with credits spanning television, film, music and the stage. Best known for his role as Bo Duke on the popular television series "The Dukes of Hazzard," Schneider stars in "Smallville" as Jonathan Kent, father to the teenage Clark Kent.

Schneider starred for six seasons as one of the fast-driving, fun-loving cousins of the Duke clan on the hugely popular '80s comedy-adventure series "The Dukes of Hazzard." He recently reprised his beloved role in the television movie "The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood." Schneider was also a series regular on the family drama "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" and the syndicated drama "Heaven Help Us."

Schneider has starred in numerous original television movies, including "Michael Landon, the Father I Knew," "True Women," "Night of the Twisters," "The Legend of Ruby Silver," "Texas" and "Desperate Journey." He also lends his voice to a lead character in Kids' WB!'s animated series "The Mummy."
