Del Toro and James Cameron to make 3D adaptation of an H.P. Lovecraft story

Posted by Blastr

When Guillermo del Toro announced at Comic-Con that he'd be developing a "scary" version of The Haunted Mansion and a "very strange" adaptation of Pinocchio, he also hinted at a third project—an all-new horror film he'd start directing in May. But what he never hinted was that in order to pull that project off, he'd be bringing in—James Cameron!

According to deadline, del Toro's next directing gig will be to adapt H. P. Lovecraft's novella "At The Mountains Of Madness" as a 3-D film for Universal Pictures, with the Avatar director coming on board as a producer.

Cameron has decided not to put his name on many future movies outside of the 3-D reboot of Fantastic Voyage, but is reportedly making an exception for del Toro, a decision which helped win over the studio.

"At the Mountains of Madness," part of Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, was originally published in a 1936 issue of Astounding, and concerns a scientific expedition to the South Pole which goes horribly wrong. (Don't they always?)

We can't wait to see a del Toro Lovecraft movie. How about you?
