Alicia Vikander to go monster hunting in Ben Wheatley’s Freakshift
Lara Croft star Alicia Vikander may soon exchange tomb raiding for some good old-fashioned monster hunting
According to Deadline, the Oscar-winner (she nabbed the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Danish Girl) is being eyed to star as the female lead in Ben Wheatley's (Sightseers, High-Rise, Free Fire) upcoming monster film, Freakshift. The premise centers on a bunch of cops on the hunt for subterranean monsters during their titular "freakshift."
The site describes the movie as "an all-guns-blazing action thriller about a band of misfits who hunt down and kill nocturnal underground monsters." Sounds kinda cool, don't you think? Plus, the "underground monsters" part is giving me all sorts of Tremors vibes (pun intended). I'm curious to see what these monsters will look like.
Wheatley co-wrote Freakish with his writing partner Amy Jump and is on hand to direct. The film will be produced by Andrew Starke via their Rook Films banner. The director’s most recent opus, Free Fire, is currently garnering some solid reviews ahead of the movie’s premiere at the end of March in the UK and April in the U.S. and stars Brie Larson, Sam Riley, Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy and Jack Reynor.
Filming on Freakshift should kick off some time in August, right after shooting on Tomb Raider wraps in the summer. If the Ex Machina actress signs on the dotted line, this will be Vikander’s next project. There’s no premiere date slated for the movie yet, so keep your eyes peeled.
What do you guys think about Freakshift's premise?
