BAD ASS WOMEN OF SCI-FI MAKE THEIR MARK ON NEW YORK COMIC CON

In a packed room on Friday night of NYCC, hundreds of fangirls (and boys) descended upon the SYFY WIRE Fangrrls : The Bad Ass Women of Sci-Fi panel — which lived up to its name.

Presented by: Heather Mason

Fangrrls Managing Editor Cher Martinetti moderated the panel stacked with women making waves in genre. Frankie Adams (Bobbie, The Expanse), Emily Andras (creator, Wynonna Earp), Yetide Badaki (Bilquis, American Gods), Fiona Dourif (Bart, Dirk Gently), Sera Gamble (co-creator, The Magicians) and writer Gail Simone joined in a lively and passionate discussion about the role of women in genre and what it means to be “bad ass.”

From how they address important women’s issues (like motherhood and abortion) within their work to representation (both behind and in front of the scenes), the panelists discussed how their individual positions impact the world of genre. With plenty of snark and smarts, these women prove just how fun it can be to fangirl.
