Even the Caped Crusader himself can’t get his hands on Bat-gizmos for free.

Batfleck got candid on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Thursday night when he swooped in to promote Justice League and was asked by Colbert if he got to keep any of the superhero weapons he got to wield as the badass in the Batsuit.

“There was some other stuff that fell off the truck, like the batarangs and stuff,” the actor said. “I kept getting these phone calls from the prop department, like, ‘You sure you haven’t found any of that stuff yet?'”

Apparently he had. Affleck couldn’t resist sneaking off with a few Batarangs—you know, that bat-shaped gadget Batman hurls at the bad guys. No one can really blame him, because if you can’t be yourself, you should be Batman, and anyone who actually gets to be Batman will want to forever have a memento of being Batman incarnate.

Think about it. You’d want to wake up in the morning and see that thing hanging on the wall as a constant reminder you took down the villains of Gotham. Maybe you’d even sleep with it. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. must be meticulous about taking inventory of their prop ammo, because Affleck soon received a bill for the studio.

“You can’t exactly have been stealing if you got billed for it, which is what happened to me,” Affleck had a laugh over the incident. “Turns out Batarangs aren’t cheap!”

As for what it feels like to actually be the hero and throw a Batarang, Affleck told Colbert that the thing (which is not just there as a visual) actually works and “it’ll hit guys if you aim it at somebody.”  So it can do damage to an unsuspecting supervillain. Kind of like that unexpected bill that landed in his Batcave.
