Here's What Rogue One's Princess Leia Looked Like Without The CGI
The appearance of young Princess Leia in the closing moment of Rogue One was a jaw-dropping shock, and now we know how things looked behind the scenes — before the CGI.
Presented by: Trent Moore
Photos from the shoot have surfaced showing Norwegian actress Ingvild Deila in her throwback Leia garb. Hairdo and all. She looks a fair bit like a young Carrie Fisher anyway, but the visual effects team at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) still had to do a little magic to put it all together. You can even see the face-tracking gear on her face, which they used to model CGI Leia on top of her natural features.
Even though it’s obviously a different actress, it’s still surreal to see a young, Carrie Fisher-esque woman sporting the classic outfit standing on those classic sets. It just shows the amount of detail the creative team went into to recreate the feel of A New Hope, for better or for worse (depending on how you felt about the CGI Leia twist)
