THOR: RAGNAROK ALREADY BRINGING THE THUNDER AS AN INTERNATIONAL HIT

Though the MCU’s latest entry has yet to be released domestically, Thor: Ragnarok can already boast financial success on top of its critical raves. Going well over the $100 million mark in the U.K., South Korea, Australia, Brazil, and France, the Crown Prince of Asgard is off and running on the international stage.

These early results are a 34% percent improvement over the last Thor film, Thor: The Dark World. In IMAX theaters alone, Thor: Ragnarok took in $6M on a mere 189 screens. These numbers are on par with this past April’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which also showcased a lighter, cosmic take on the Marvel Universe.

The international success sent Thor's already majestical buzz into overdrive, as it dominated social media last week with a bifrost-smashing 196,000 new conversations.

Thor is showing no signs of slowing down, either, as he has yet to unleash his hammer on Germany, Russia, China, Japan, or Mexico. All of those releases, as well as the highly anticipated one here in the U.S. this Friday, are poised to send Thor and his best frenemy Loki into the upper tier of MCU money makers. One also wonders how the film will play in New Zealand, where new MCU director Taika Waititi is already a proven entity and lauded hero.

Critical raves and a comedic tone could be part of the reason the film is doing so well, and there’s little doubt that it will have a major impact upon its domestic release. So perhaps the real test will be what happens when Justice League finally comes along two weeks later.
