WATCH: THE SCIENCE OF FEAR: WHY WE LOVE TO BE SCARED
As crazy as it sounds, we actually like being afraid. While that may explain the horror movie industry, it doesn't really make sense. Why would we want to get our hearts racing so? Why would we want to make ourselves knowingly uncomfortable? What's the appeal? Well, there are scientific explanations for all of these questions.

As you can see in our interview below, sociologist Margee Kerr gives us the science behind the phenomenon of fear. And she should know too, seeing as she wrote a book about it: Scream: Chilling Adventures in the Science of Fear. As such, we caught up with the author to discuss such scary topics, and we did so at a most fitting locale: the supposedly haunted Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
