ABOUT DESTINATION TRUTH

“Destination Truth” (six one-hour episodes) is a weekly adventure series that invites viewers along on one man’s search for the truth, while investigating stories of the unexplained across the globe. Every week, Josh Gates, a world adventurer and eager truth-seeker, and his small crew of production buddies visits a different destination around the world that is home to notorious supernatural and mysterious stories, such as the Chilean Chupacabra, as well as some lesser-known phenomena like the dinosaur-like creatures reported in the skies over Papua, New Guinea, a haunted village in Thailand, and the Wolfman of Argentina. Josh searches for evidence to either prove or debunk these stories by talking to witnesses and experts and immersing himself in the local culture.

The series, executive produced by Neil and Michael Mandt for their Mandt Brothers Productions, is slated to premiere June 6, 2007 at 10:00 p.m., following all-new episodes of the hit reality series “Ghost Hunters.”

Episodes

  1. Episode 1

    Iguanodon and Ri

    Papua New Guinea: Iguanodon

Spurred by news reports of SWAT teams searching the jungles of Papua New Guinea for a dinosaurlike beast, Josh travels to the little-explored South Pacific island nation to investigate sightings of an iguanodon near Tinganavudu, a remote village on the island of New Britain. After arriving in the capital city of Port Moresby, Josh meets with Dr. Linus Digimrina, an anthropology professor at Papua New Guinea University who provides photos of bones thought to be the remains of an iguanodon.

    Papua New Guinea: Ri

Before returning to the United States, Josh opts to investigate a second local legend, of a mermaidlike creature called the Ri, which has been reported in waters off the island of New Ireland. After a short flight, the crew treks to Nokon Village, near where the sightings were reported.

    Expert Analysis: Iguanodon

Upon returning to the United States, Josh meets with Dr. Andrew Egilis, a zoologist at the University of California–Davis who has been examining the iguanodon evidence. The bones, Dr. Egilis says, are likely the remains of a sperm whale, and the movement caught on video could be a saltwater crocodile searching the edges of the swamp for food. But he leaves open the possibility that Josh's team had encountered a previously uncataloged creature.

  2. Episode 2

    Haunted Village and Naga

    Thailand: The Haunting

Josh and his team travel to Thailand to investigate reports of spooked villagers bringing in professional ghost-hunters to track down increasingly active spirits haunting their surroundings.

    Thailand: Phaya Naga

Convinced they've gotten all the evidence they can, Josh and his team break camp and send the audio evidence to a forensics lab in California. In the meantime, they remain in Northeast Thailand to investigate the legend of the naga, a serpentine creature said to inhabit the waters of the Mekong River on the border with Laos.

  3. Episode 3

    Ropen and Chupacabra

    Papua New Guinea: Ropen

Intrigued by reports of a pterodactyl-like creature, Josh travels to the largely unexplored island nation of Papua New Guinea, where witnesses describe the so-called Ropen as a carnivorous, featherless bird with a wingspan of up to 15 feet and a defining glow emanating from its torso.

    Papua New Guinea: Ropen, continued

Not long into their journey up a steep hillside, Josh realizes that Max has no idea where he's going, so they return to the village and find a new guide who not only knows where the cave is but is able to draw up a map of all the caves in the area.

    Chile: El Chupacabra

Upon arrival in Santiago, Chile, Josh interviews witnesses who claim to have seen El Chupacabra. They describe it as a three-foot-tall creature with coarse hair, leathery skin and glowing red eyes. It is reputed to be responsible for killing thousands of head of livestock. It kills with a single puncture wound through the jugular vein.

  4. Episode 4

    Bigfoot and Nahuelito

    Malaysia: Bigfoot

Awash in reports of alleged sightings of a Malaysian Bigfoot, Josh and his crew head to Southeast Asia to learn more about this cousin of the American Sasquatch. Since most of the sightings have occurred in or around Endau Rompin National Park on the Malaysian peninsula, Josh decides to focus his investigation there.

    Argentina: Nahuelito

Josh's next stop is Argentina, where the sea-serpentlike Nahuelito has been attracting Loch Ness-level attention due to numerous reported sightings. The crew heads directly to Buenos Aires, where a cinematographer, Fabian, claims to have caught the creature on film. The video turns out to be less than convincing, fueling Josh's resolve to get a closer look at the Nahuelito.

  5. Episode 6

    El Lobizon and El Pombero

    Argentina: El Lobizon

Having read news reports of a creature similar to a werewolf in Argentina, Josh heads to Buenos Aires to investigate El Lobizon. Like the werewolf, El Lobizon is a human who transmogrifies during a full moon, but it takes the form of a ferocious dog instead of a wolf. The transformation reputedly can happen only to the seventh son in a family with all male children.

    Argentina: El Pombero

Josh begins the search for a hairy, pygmylike being known as El Pombero, which is said to possess unusual powers, such as turning invisible or impregnating women simply by touching their belly. He soon finds himself on the Guarani Indian reservation, the site of many alleged encounters. A witness points Josh to an abandoned house that presents an ideal setting for an overnight investigation.
