  4. Episode 4

    Darling

Six is sceptical when he tries the village's dating service, but it matches him with 4-15, who, although blind, resembles Lucy, the woman he met in New York. Six sets out to establish whether they are the same person, and can help explain his captivity, but Two is manipulating his feelings.

  5. Episode 5

    Schizoid

Six encounters a double seemingly intent on killing Two, but the sinister leader of the village himself adopts an alter ego - who is the opposite of his king-like real self - and appears to be encouraging the would-be assassin. In New York, meanwhile, Michael is recognising aspects of his life to come in the desert.

  6. Episode 6

    Checkmate

313 diagnoses Six with Village Death. He has a strange and inexplicable disease that will end his life unless, that is, he agrees to assimilate.

'Newcomers' arrive in the Village on buses, but when asked where they have arrived from, they say 'the Village'. Two is expanding the Village - leaving Six even more driven to understand what the purpose of this place is and how he can get himself and other Villagers out.

Characters

  • Six/Michael

    JIM CAVIEZEL

Six is a man with a purpose, who finds himself trapped in a situation and place beyond his comprehension. He is persistent, curious and refuses to conform. With his analytical mind, Six constantly looks for answers and is always in search of an escape – either physically or psychologically.

Jim Caviezel’s first acting gig was an undergraduate stage adaptation of the Frank Sinatra musical Come Blow Your Horn. In the early 1980s he relocated to Los Angeles, and found small roles on popular TV shows like “Murder, She Wrote” and “The Wonder Years.” He talked his way into his big screen debut as an airline reservations clerk in Gus Van Sant’s My Own Private Idaho (1991) by pretending to be a recent Italian immigrant with a thick accent. He continued to get small roles in pictures like Diggstown (1992) and Wyatt Earp (1994). As ‘Slov Slovnik’ in G.I. Jane (1997) he made his presence felt in several scenes with co-star Demi Moore.

Jim has also starred in the thriller Unknown (2006), alongside Barry Pepper and GregKinnear; and the action film Déjà vu (2006),with Denzel Washington. His breakthroughrole, was the brooding pacifist ‘PrivateWitt’ in The Thin Red Line (1998), alongsideSean Penn, Nick Nolte and Adrien Brody. He went on to appear in such films as Ride With the Devil (1999) and Frequency (2000).In 2001, Jim starred with Jennifer Lopezin Angel Eyes, directed by Luis Mandoki. He then played the wrongly convicted‘Edmond Dantes’ in The Count of Monte Cristo (2002), and a war hero wrestlingwith a murder charge in High Crimes (2002),with Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd.

It could be said that Jim’s role in The Passion of the Christ (2004) is the ultimate in terms of making simultaneous physical and emotional demands upon a performer. The actor was chosen for the role because he was willing to commit to this unique project whole-heartedly. In 2004, Jim appeared with Robin Williams and Mira Sorvino in Final Cut, and with Claire Forlani and Jeremy Northam in Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius. More recently, he starred in the heartwarming bio-pic on Hydroplane boat racer Jim McCormick in Madison. Jim’s most recent endeavor will see him reprise the role of ‘Six’ in AMC’s “The Prisoner.”

  • Two

    IAN MCKELLEN

Two is the leader of The Village and a figure of repressive authority and control. However, is he really the puppet master pulling the strings?

Ian McKellen was born in Burnley, Lancashire, but spent most of his early life in Wigan. Having developed a growing passion for theatre, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in 1961 and began working in theatre over the next few years, starring in Dr. Faustus with the Royal Shakespeare’s Company, and The Winter’s Tale, Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth. In 1969, Ian starred in the films The Promise, Alfred the Great and A Touch of Love. In 1979, he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

McKellen was cast as ‘Eric Lensherr’ in X-Men (2000) and X-Men 2 (2003). Next, he landed the role of ‘Gandalf the Grey’ in The Lord of The Rings (2001) and the following sequels, for which he won the SAG® Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role and was nominated for Empire, Oscar®, Golden Globe® and BAFTA Awards. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) won the Online Film Critics Society Award and Phoenix Film Critics Society Award for the Best Ensemble. A year later, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) won a National Board of Review Award for Best Acting by an Ensemble and the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by the Cast in a Motion Picture.

More recently, Ian voiced the role of ‘Doogal’ in The Magic Roundabout (2005), and briefly went back to the stage starring in The Cut (2006). He then enjoyed huge success with The Da Vinci Code (2006); starred vocally in Flushed Away (2006), for which he won an Annie Award for Best Voice Acting in an Animated Feature Production; completed filming for the X-Men The Last Stand (2006); and was voiced in Stardust (2007) and The Golden Compass (2007).

In 2008, Ian was cast as the main role in King Lear and later took on the role of ‘Estragon’ in Waiting for Godot alongside Patrick Stewart.

  • 313

    RUTH WILSON

313 is a doctor who plays a pivotal role in the functionality and success of The Village. On the surface, she is neat and intelligent, but this outward appearance conceals her true thoughts, dreams, and nightmares.

In early 2006, Ruth Wilson exploded onto the scene by winning the title role in the BBC’s major new adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre – her first job out of drama school. She went on to gain a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress in 2007 and a Best Actress nomination at the Golden Globe® Awards.

Ruth next appeared on stage in Maxim Gorky’s The Philistines at the National Theatre. The play garnered high praise from critics and audience alike. The Independent referred to her as “the excellent Ruth Wilson,” and the Sunday Telegraph called her portrayal “riveting.”

Following these successes, Ruth found herself in demand and became muse to the renowned auteur, Stephen Poliakoff, playing the lead in two critically-aclaimed films, Capturing Mary and A Real Summer, written specifically for Ruth and which she performed alone as a monologue.

In 2008, she moved to South Africa to film AMC’s “The Prisoner,” and played the female lead in “Small Island,” the forthcoming adaptation of the hugely popular book, for BBC. Ruth can currently be seen as ‘Stella’ in the Donmar Warehouse production of A Streetcar Named Desire, starring opposite Rachel Weisz.
