Characters

  • Lois Lane

    Erica Durance

Erica Durance joined the Superman legacy by portraying the iconic Lois Lane in "Smallville." In the role of the future Daily Planet reporter, Durance plays Lois as a street-smart, tough young woman who bonds with the Kent family, to Clark's (Tom Welling) occasional dismay.

Durance grew up in Three Hills, Alberta. A dual citizen of Canada and the U.S., she has guest starred in the television series "Stargate SG-1," "The Chris Isaak Show," "Andromeda" and "Tru Calling." She also starred in the 2004 pilot "Gramercy Park" and guest starred in the fantasy series "The Collector."

Durance recently completed production on the feature film "The Butterfly Effect 2," playing Julie, the central female character.  In addition, Durance starred in the cable thriller "Stranded."

  • Jason Teague

    Jensen Ackeles

Recently listed as one of E! Online's "Sizzlin' 16 of 2004" and YM's "Hottest Guys of 2003," Jensen Ackles is a young actor on the rise.

Ackles makes his big-screen debut in the upcoming feature film "Devour," opposite Dominique Swain and Shannyn Sossamon.  The film was directed by David Winkler.

Ackles was seen on "Dawson's Creek" in a recurring role and as a series regular on "Dark Angel."  His additional work in television includes appearing in the miniseries "Blonde," opposite Poppy Montgomery and Patrick Dempsey.

In 1997, Ackles began his acting career with much critical acclaim when he joined the cast of "Days of Our Lives."  In addition to three Daytime Emmy Award nominations (1998, 1999 and 2000), he won the Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Male Newcomer in 1998.

Ackles was born in Dallas and raised in Richardson, Texas.  He now resides in Los Angeles.

  • Clark Kent

    Tom Welling

Tom Welling, familiar to television audiences from a recurring role on "Judging Amy," makes his series-starring debut in "Smallville" as a teenage Clark Kent struggling to come to grips with his emerging superpowers.

Born and raised in New York, Welling is fairly new to the acting world. He performed in a few high school theatre productions before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a professional career.

His first big break was landing six episodes on "Judging Amy" last season, playing opposite Amy Brenneman in a romantic role that drew raves. He landed the role of Clark after the producers conducted a nationwide search.

When not working, Welling enjoys reading, playing basketball with friends and running.

  • Lex Luthor

    Michael Rosenbaum

Self-assured and possessed of a rapid-fire wit, Michael Rosenbaum shaved his thick hair for the role he seems born to play: a young Lex Luthor in "Smallville." Born in Oceanside, New York, and raised in Newburgh, Indiana, Rosenbaum excelled in high school drama classes. Once hooked, he took on lead roles in college stage productions such as "The Heidi Chronicles" while attending Western Kentucky University and performing in regional theatre during his summers.

Upon graduating with a degree in mass communications and theatre, he packed his bags and headed for New York to pursue acting. He quickly landed roles in off-Broadway productions and small independent films, and he soon segued into regular appearances on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" in a sketch called "The Amsterdam Kids."

His first real break came when he got a regular role on The WB's comedy series "The Tom Show," with Tom Arnold. The relationship with the network continued as he was cast as Jack in the New York comedy "Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane."

Most recently, Rosenbaum appeared on the big screen in "Sweet November," which starred Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron. Rosenbaum can be seen starring in the college comedy "Sorority Boys," opposite Harland Williams and Barry Watson (The WB's "7th Heaven"), and he plays the lead role in the independent drama "Poolhall Junkies," with Christopher Walken, Rick Schroder and Chazz Palminteri. Rosenbaum also starred in the hit thriller "Urban Legend" and appeared in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack.

Rosenbaum currently resides in Los Angeles. When not working, he belongs to an ice hockey league. He has played the sport since childhood and is a dedicated New York Rangers fan.

  • Lana Lang

    Kristin Kreuk

A fresh face to American television viewers, Kristin Kreuk was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. She began acting in plays in high school but mostly focused on her schoolwork rather than the stage. Fate came calling at the beginning of her senior year, when a casting director looking for new talent for the television series "Edgemont" tapped Kreuk for a starring role. It was her first professional audition.

Since then, she has starred on the series for two seasons and has continued her role while filming "Smallville" in her hometown of Vancouver. She will also be seen this spring starring in the title role of the television movie "Snow White," opposite Miranda Richardson.

Kreuk currently lives with her family in Vancouver and, when not working, enjoys reading and spending time with friends.

  • Lionel Luthor

    John Glover

Tony Award winner and five-time Emmy Award nominee John Glover was born in Salisbury, Maryland.  Glover worked off Broadway for 10 years before Jane Fonda's notorious slap in "Julia" caused audiences to sit up and take notice of this talented newcomer.  Deciding to take the next step in Hollywood, Glover moved to Los Angeles, where he landed the role of Victor DiMato in the television movie "An Early Frost," playing a brave AIDS patient.  His performance earned him his first Emmy nomination.

Glover was soon cast as a series of notable villains, such as the pornographer/blackmailer in "52 Pick-Up," the mad scientist Dr. Jason Woodrue in "Batman & Robin," a manic television executive in "Gremlins 2: The New Batch" and a drunken murderer in "Masquerade."  His impressive résumé also includes such box office hits as "Payback," with Mel Gibson; Woody Allen's "Annie Hall"; "Robocop 2"; "Love! Valour! Compassion!"; and the 2002 film "Mid-Century," in which he portrayed Bill Gates opposite Faye Dunaway.

Glover has lit up the small screen as well, with Emmy-nominated turns in the series "Frasier," "L.A. Law" and "Crime & Punishment."  Taking his villainous streak to the extreme, Glover portrayed Satan in "Brimstone."  Other television credits include the telefilms "The Tempest," "Dead by Midnight," "Assault at West Point: The Court-Martial of Johnson Whittaker," "An Enemy of the People," "A Season of Giants" and "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?"  Glover received another Emmy nod for his role in the miniseries "Nutcracker: Money, Madness & Murder" and a CableACE Award nomination for his work in "Traveling Man."

  • Chloe Sullivan

Previously, Mack guest starred in a highly rated and critically praised episode of The WB's family drama "7th Heaven," portraying a teen caught up in the devastating trend of "cutting" (self-mutilation). She can also be seen on Kids' WB! in two episodes of the R.L. Stine series "The Nightmare Room."

Additionally, Mack has starred in many prestigious movies for television, including the recent cable film "My Horrible Year," directed by Eric Stoltz and starring Karen Allen, Mimi Rogers and Stoltz. An accomplished dancer and singer, Mack enjoys reading, going to movies and plays and spending time with her friends and family.

  • Pete Ross

    Sam Jones III

Having been in Hollywood only two years, Sam Jones III is already making quite a name for himself. He recently completed leading roles in two feature films, "Zigzag" and "Snipes," as well as guest starring in several television series. His role as Pete marks his series-starring debut.

Growing up in Boston, Massachusetts, Jones acted in local commercials. After spending a summer vacation with a friend living in Los Angeles, he caught the showbiz bug and decided to pursue a career in acting. Soon after he graduated from high school, Jones moved to Hollywood to follow his dream.

His first job was a memorable guest-starring role on "NYPD Blue," in which he portrayed a troubled teen who stole a gun and hid it in his daughter's crib. From there, Jones' career began to grow. His credits include an emotionally charged recurring role on "C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation," in which he played a teen who accidentally kills a girl and then watches as his grandfather attempts to take the blame. He also guest starred on "Judging Amy," as a sexually abused teen who gets mixed up in a drive-by shooting. Jones appears in two episodes of the R.L. Stine series "The Nightmare Room," on Kids' WB!.

On the big screen, Jones is poised to make an auspicious debut. In the gritty independent drama "Zigzag," he plays the autistic 15-year-old title character, opposite Wesley Snipes as his crack-addicted father. The film also stars Oliver Platt, Natasha Lyonne and John Leguizamo as his terminally ill mentor. Jones also stars in the upcoming independent crime drama "Snipes," playing opposite rapper Nelly and Dean Winters ("Oz").

When he is not working, Jones spends his time on the basketball court. He relocated from Los Angeles to Vancouver for the filming of "Smallville."

He recently reprised his beloved role in the television movie "The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood."
